Schöfferhofer Weizen was the first wheat beer in Germany to be brewed outside Bavaria. For many years, it has proved to be one of the most successful German wheat beer brands, which include numerous award-winning and innovative variations in flavour.  

The most striking feature of Schöfferhofer Weizen is its fruity character with a slight citrus note. This, combined with a pleasant hint of clove, makes Schöfferhofer an enjoyable, sparklingly smooth beverage. Compared with the more filling wheat beers from the Bavarian region, Schöfferhofer is characterised by its ‘sleek’, elegant character and its resultant palatability.  

Schöfferhofer is known as “the champagne among wheat beers”.

History:
The brand name of Schöfferhofer comes from the Mainzer Hofbierbrauerei brewery ‘Zum Schöfferhof’, which merged with the Binding and Frankfurter Bürgerbräu breweries after World War I. Schöfferhofer was first brewed in 1978 – the first wheat beer to be produced outside Bavaria. The brewhouse was the Binding-Brauerei in Kassel, later Binding Brauerei Frankfurt. Schöfferhofer Weizen opened up the market for wheat beer in more northerly regions and now occupies 4th place in Germany, 2nd place in Berlin and is market leader in the State of Hessen. ‘Schöfferhofer klares Weizen’ was introduced in 1978 as an upmarket beer speciality. Further products were added to the Schöfferhofer range over the years: Helles Hefeweizen in 1984, Dunkles Hefeweizen in 1990 and non-alcoholic Hefeweizen in 2006 (all yeast-based wheat beer varieties).

Schöfferhofer Weizen is a fresh, urban wheat beer and accordingly unique among the typical filling banana-flavoured wheat beer brands from Bavaria. Thanks to the wide selection of different flavours, such as yeast-based, dark and yeast-free, together with the fruity Schöfferhofer mix range, the brand stands out prominently from the traditional wheat beer sector.
 

Beer Style: Wheat beer
Wheat beer is brewed from a blend of wheat and barley malt. It owes its typical, faintly sweet and flowery aroma to the wheat malt content and fermentation with top-fermenting brewers’ yeast. It is the higher level of aeration that accounts for the unmistakeable smooth sparkling sensation and makes wheat beer so very refreshing.

The most distinguishing features of Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen are its distinct wheat malt aroma, its strong hint of clove and its sleek, slightly citrus character.
